Intrauterine Device (IUD) Care
Intrauterine devices (IUDs) provide long-term, highly effective and immediately reversible birth control. They are a first-line choice for young adults, postpartum and also for later reproductive years including peri-menopause to control heavy or painful periods. IUDs are ideal for those who can not tolerate hormones well since they have very few (or no) side effects. From a naturopathic perspective, IUDs help patients by providing a worry-free option to prevent unwanted pregnancies while avoiding the use of oral contraceptives. They often provide relief from bothersome menstrual symptoms so patients can get precious time back from their life to work on other aspects of their health and wellness.
Ultrasound Guided IUD Insertions
Dr. Shaw is passionate about helping patients decide on the best option for their bodies and lifestyles. Her gentle approach includes pre-screening and education to ensure patients feel fully informed before the procedure which alleviates anxiety. She uses medication to soften the cervix when indicated and offers local freezing to the cervix for all patients to help make insertions more comfortable. All IUD insertions are guided by ultrasound to assess the uterine size, shape and contour prior to insertion, and also to visualize proper placement after the IUD is in place.
No referral required and routine pap tests can be provided at the same time.
We offer same week appointments with no wait list at this time.
IUDs are fully covered by PharmaCare for any BC resident enrolled in the MSP
